CHALLENGE
Vejle Municipality was transforming a historic spinning mill into a new hub for creativity, culture, and innovation. The goal was to design a wayfinding system that honoured the building's industrial heritage while complementing the modern architectural elements introduced during its renovation.

SOLUTION
Before restoration began, I was given access to the site enabling me to document original signage, machine labels, materials and colour schemes. Additionally, I sourced archival footage from the 1940s, which provided valuable historical context and inspired key design elements.

PICTOGRAMS
The symbols were created specifically for the project. The shape language is informed by the Courier typeface used for the signage. The goal was to provide a dynamic set of pictograms that reflected the new revived factory whilst still respecting the historical aspect of the location.

TYPOGRAPHY
Labels on machinery and old typewriter documents found in the historical archives informed the use of Courier as the primary typeface for the signage solution.

The secondary typeface - Futura Condensed Medium - was inspired by warning signs found throughout the old factory. This timeless sans-serif font helped connect the old with the new, creating a wayfinding solution that feels rooted in the history of the buildings.
